BLACKWORK BOOKMARK KIT

This bookmark kit offering 6 pattern options to choose from, provides the perfect introduction to Blackwork, a wonderfully therapeutic style of embroidery first popularised during the reign of Henry VIII.

Although the final piece can look very intricate, each pattern is just a collection of straight stitches worked in a contrasting thread on linen.

The technique relies on an evenweave fabric where the thread count is exactly the same in both directions (the warp and the weft) and each thread is distinct enough to count without straining your eyes.

By counting your fabric threads you can settle into a lvely, rhythmic routine, building up a variety of geometric patterns-traditionally nown as 'diaper'patterns-using nothing more than a humble running or back stitch.  It's the perfect way to spend a quiet afternoon.
